Your favorite treking routes might be under snow till spring, but snowshoeing is a budget friendly, available method to keep winter season fun. The privacy of snowshoeing is also a bonus: there are no crowds, heavy machinery, or limitless lift lines. The following destinations have some of the finest snowshoeing in The United States and Canada, from groomed Nordic tracks and valley floorings, to lakeshore forest glades and rugged ascents.
Ashcroft, Colorado: Ghost town turned dining location Eleven miles from Aspen, this ghost town has been become an ungroomed, unmaintained Nordic play area. Check out the miles of trails that traverse meadow, creek and evergreen forest dotted with the remnants of the mining boom town of Ashcroft. Your location should be the famous Pine Creek Cookhouse, which serves hearty alpine fare with regionally sourced components.
If you're too exhausted or sloshed to hoof it back to your cars and truck, you can reserve a sleigh ride. Lessons and trips hosted by ACES (the Aspen Center for Environmental Research studies) are also offered. You'll need to purchase a day pass on-site. Gear is also offered to rent. 2. Mt.
As you head up into the Hood River Valley, the volcanic cone of Mt. Hood towers above dense pine forest and meadow. The five-mile Trillium Lake Loop is easy, but the views are just reward.
